BBM 7 Backs Up and Restores Contacts Using Blackberry ID

I was using BBM 6.0 on my old Blackberry Curve 3, I used to back up my BBM contacts to my email address and SD card using the BackUp/Restore features. When the phone developed some fault which forced me to wipe and reload Blackberry OS on it, I easily restored my BBM contacts from my email address registered with the Blackberry Messenger.



After switching to a new BB powered by Blackberry OS 7, I noticed that there is no more back Up/restore feature in the menu options of the BBM7 with BBM voice chat. I also noticed that the Blackberry Protect app backs Up phone book contacts and not BBM contacts. So, I decided to google the new way of backing up and restoring BBM contacts on latest BBs. 

Fortunately, I stumbled on an article on Blackberry Knowledge base that explains how the contacts Back Up feature works on BBM7. Below, is an excerpt from the article:

As of BBM7 the BlackBerry Messenger contacts are associated with the BB.ID (BlackBerry Identity). Backing up through BlackBerry Desktop Software will no longer backup BBM as the contacts are not stored locally on the BlackBerry smartphone. When moving to a new BlackBerry smartphone BBM contacts will populate on the device if associated with the same BB.ID.

In a nutshell, your BBM contacts are now automatically backed up as soon as you login to a BB with your BlackBerry ID. The BlackBerry ID will be used for both backing up and restoring! So, if you buy a new BB and log in with your Blackberry ID, your BBM contacts will be restored onto the new BB.

Rape Suspect Buried Alive In Bolivia

A man suspected of rape has been buried alive
by villagers in the southern highlands of Bolivia.
Police had identified the 17-year-old as the
possible culprit in the rape and murder of a 35-
year-old woman near the municipality of
Colquechaca.
The chief prosecutor says more than 200 furious
local people seized Santos Ramos and buried
him in the grave of his alleged victim.
He says residents blocked roads into the village
to stop police arriving.
A reporter for a local radio station, who would
only speak anonymously for fear of reprisals,
told the media that Mr Ramos was tied up at the
woman's funeral.
He said mourners threw him into the open grave
alongside the woman's coffin and filled the
grave with earth.
Colquechaca is a town of about 5,000
inhabitants some 207 miles ( 333 km) south-
east of the Bolivian capital, La Paz.
Correspondents say lynchings sometimes
happen in isolated, poorer parts of Bolivia,
where police and other authorities are scarce

Tottenham have reopened talks to sign Brazil
striker Leandro Damiao as they prepare to announce the
appointment of Franco Baldini as the club's new technical
director.
Former England assistant Baldini will oversee Spurs'
transfer policy and scouting network after leaving his role
as general manager of Roma on Wednesday.
The Italian's appointment, as Goal reported in May, will
see Tottenham return to a continental management
structure. The 52-year-old is understood to have a good
relationship with Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas, who
he tried to appoint as Roma manager last year.
Baldini's contacts within the game and networking skills
were a key factor in the Londoners' decision - and he will
get straight down to work as the club target a top four
finish next season.
Among his first tasks will be to take on the club's renewed
push to sign Internacional's £15 million-rated striker
Damiao , a long-term target who Spurs have
unsuccessfully tried to sign for the last two-and-a-half
years.
The 23-year-old, who scored 24 goals last season, will
almost certainly leave Internacional this summer and is
open to a switch to White Hart Lane despite his desire to
play Champions League football. Villas-Boas remains a big
fan, having urged the club to sign the player in the
January transfer window.
Tottenham have a partnership
agreement with Internacional,
from whom they signed Sandro
for £8m in 2010, but have
previously struggled to reach
an agreement to complete a
move for Damiao.
Marseille and Napoli have also
been linked with Damiao but
Spurs are confident of finally
landing their man this summer
as part of a summer overhaul
of their strikeforce.
Damiao's agent, Vinicius
Prates, left the door open for
his client to move to White
Hart Lane this week. "If it was just a matter of money, he
would have left a long time ago," he told Zero Hora.
"Leandro Damiao's dream is to play the World Cup.
"If he leaves, it will be to a big club, he is under contract
until 2016 and the club gives him every condition for him
to achieve that dream.
"Our idea is to always work with big clubs, all players
dream of playing in the Champions League. But
Tottenham are an important club in London, we can't rule
them out."
Villas-Boas wants to sign two forwards this summer, with
Damiao and Barcelona star David Villa the top targets and
the likes of Roberto Soldado and Pierre-Emerick
Aubameyang considered alternatives.
Goal revealed last month that Spurs had made their move
for £10m-rated Villa , who is keen on a move to the
Premier League but is unlikely to make a final decision on
his future until after the Confederations Cup.
The Spain international would command a salary worth
around £110,000-a-week but Spurs hope to offset that
cost by selling Emmanuel Adebayor this summer, while
they are also open to offers for Jermain Defoe.

a maximum of 10 participants and there's a 150 minute

currently typing, and if they've seen your messages.
Using Google+ Circles, you can select specific friends or
a whole group to start a chat with. If you're offline,
Hangouts will store your messages until you return.

Hangouts app works on computers, Android and Apple
devices, so you can connect with everyone, and no one
gets left out.

If you want to download Hangouts plugin to your
computer, visit the Hangouts website using a chrome
browser and click on the "Available for Computer" link.
The plugin will be added to your PC and you can start
chatting with it asap.

How 2 Configure Android Phones Internet Settings in Nigeria

If you prefer to connect your Android phone or tab to the
internet using mobile networks instead of wi-Fi
networks, there is need for you to activate mobile data
service on your Android device. Unfortunately, most
Android tablets and phones are unable to accept Over-
The-Air (OTA) 3G/GPRS settings and need to be set up
manually.
Now, I am sharing with you, how you can manually set
up Etisalat, Glo, Airtel and MTN internet settings on your
Android phone or tab, be it Samsung, HTC, LG or
Tecno Android phone. You must know the APN of
Etisalat, Glo, MTN and Airtel for you to be able to
configure your Android for internet.
How Do I configure Internet Settings On my
Android Phone or tab?
==> Tap "Menu" or "Apps"
==> Tap "Settings"
==> Tap "Wireless and Networks" or "More
Settings"
If you tapped "Wireless and Networks", tap "Mobile
Networks"
If you tapped "More Settings", tap "Mobile
Networks" > "Mobile Data"
==> Tap "Access Point names"
==> Press "Menu" (looks like four horizontal lines, a
square within a square or the word Menu)
==> Then select ' New APN'
==> This is where you will enter the specific internet
settings of the mobile network you want to configure on
your Android device.
Now, let me assume you want to configure Glo Mobile
GPRS settings on your Android. Just key in the details
below:
Name: Glo Nigeria
APN: gloflat

If you look closely at the settings above, you will notice
that you entered only the Name, APN, Username and
Password while leaving the other parameters
untouched. The four parameters are the main settings
you need to configure to make your android phone or tab
to browse with the mobile network of your choice.

MTN, Glo. Airtel and Etisalat Nigeria

How P-Square shut down Malawi

Located in the southeast  part of Africa, Malawi  is rarely known for its night life,  clubbing and staging of musical concerts. But last weekend, the story was different as the country erupted into a frenzy of excitement following the presence of Nigeria’s pop duo, Psquare who stormed there  to thrill their fans.

Psquare were in Malawi to headline a concert organised as part of the activities that preceded the hosting of this year’s Africa Movie Academy Awards nomination party which held last Friday, at the Bingu Wa Muntharika International Conference Centre, in Lilongwe, Malawi. Of course, the concert  proved to be one of the greatest outings embarked upon by  the duo in recent times.

As early as 3 pm, the Lilongwe Golf Club, venue of P-Square’s ‘Experience it’ concert was filled to the brim. It was the first time a concert of this magnitude would be organised  in the shores of Malawi, and this, to many Malawians, was an important show, and a major breakthrough for Joyce Banda-led civilian government. Not only did the concert bring excitement and relief to the faces of over 50,000  Malawians, who thronged the venue, it equally  showed how Nigerian music is accepted across the borders of east African countries.

I didn’t know ‘Things Fall Apart’ would be published – Achebe

Things Fall Apart is one of the most successful books on the surface of earth and it was China Achebe’s most successful work.In this extract from his latest book, ‘THERE WAS A COUNTRY, the late writer stated that when he was writing the book he did not  know whether it would be published or not.

A major objective of becoming a writer was to challenge stereotypes, myths, and the image of ourselves and our continent, and to recast them through stories – prose, poetry, essays, and books for our children. That was my overall goal.

When a number of us decided to pick up the pen and make writing a career there was no African literature as we know it today. There were of course our great oral tradition – the epics of the Malinke, the Bamana, and the Fulani – the narratives of Olaudah Equaino, works by D.A. Fagunwa and Muhammadu Bello, and novels by Pita Nwana, Amos Tutuola, and Cyprian Ekwensi.

Across the African continent, literary Aficionados could savor the works of Egyptian, Nubian, and Carthaginian antiquity, Amharic and Tigrigna writings from Ethiopia and Eritrea; and the magnificent poetry and creation myths of Somalia. There was more – the breathtakingly beautiful Swahili poetry of East and Central Africa,  and the chronicles, legends, and fables of the Ashanti, Dogon, Hutu, Kalanga, Mandingo, Ndebele, Ovambo, Shona, Sotho, Swazi, Tsonga, Tswana, Tutsi, Venda, Wolof, Nhosa, and Zulu.

Olive Schreiner’s nineteenth-century classic story of an African Farm and works by Samuel Mqhayi  and Thomas Mofolo, Alan Paton, Camara Laye, Mongo Beti, Peter Abrahams, and Ferdinand Oyono, all preceded our time. Still, the numbers were not sufficient.
And so I had no idea when I was writing Things Fall Apart whether it would even be accepted or published. All of this was new -there was nothing by which I could gauge how it was going to be received.

Writing has always been a serious business for me. I felt it was a moral obligation. A major concern of the time was the absence of the African voice. Being part of that dialogue meant not only sitting at the table but effectively telling the African story from an African perspective – in full earshot of the world.
